GREAT TV Love this TV. I have not noticed any problems with this TV at all. The delivery was great, the guy that worked for CEVA brought in the TV and helped me set it up. The picture on this TV is super, I love watching DVD's with the TV. I purchased this TV when it was on special which matched up the samsung Home Theater System with it. The surround sound is awesome and looks great. Good deal for the price :2011-11-17 11:35:36
Great TV Great Price!! Great picture. great quality. I purchased this TV from Amazon 07/07/09 and have been enjoying it ever since. To be honest I was looking at the 1080p plasma's and I'm glad I went with this one. My neighbor just bought the same one after Christmas and loves it. Highly recommend for the price. :2011-11-17 11:35:18
Samsung 50 " Plasma 720P I had to write a review to tell everyone about this TV ..First off I bought this TV to replace the old Projection TV and a Tube TV and being new to the digitial TV's I have to say I was put off at first .
I could tell the picture was clearer than my Sony Projection TV and looked more vibrant and at the same time it had a slight double edge just slightly enough to annoy me so I took it back to the store.
I replaced it with the same model of Samsung I had before and got it home it looked exactly the same. I have dish network and I called them they said the new TV's need HD to look perfect and I had them come out and put HD on the tv all I can say is WOW . What a difference I have never seen a clearer picture on any TV in my life every detail is amazing and flawless and I have friends with LCD 1080i in HD and this TV outshines them in colors and clarity.
The noise reduction should never be turned on and there is the sharpness you want to keep around 36 and for brightness I keep it around 50 it is too bright above that setting. If the people are plastic looking in the face you have it set up wrong in the NR or Saturation. I am way picky about my TV picture and thought I was going to have to pay 3 times as much to get this kind of quality it's like looking out a crystal clear window .If you never hook up HD you will never know what your missing IF you do hoo up HD you won't go without it ever again. I also see it shows 1980 X 1080i when on HD I thought they rated it at 720P I am not complaining..
One more thing the TV does not get hot or have any artifacts or screen burn in problems . The 42 Plasma I bought gets hot in back it is a Zenith and it worries me a bit since I just bought it.
I also wantd to tell you all the new TV's are made for digital and HD if you are picky about the picture you will end up installing HD if the TV is 50 or over. :2011-11-17 11:34:59
Samsung the best, First of all I love buying from Amazon. They are so easy to deal with and give great service. This Samsung Plasma is exactly what we wanted. The picture is amazing, easy to set up, and the size is perfect for our rec room. I was a little hesitant from some of the reviews, but have had no trouble at all. I would highly recomend this TV! :2011-11-17 11:34:40
Big beautiful picture Big beautiful picture, can't say enough about the picture, and the price was great $699 with white glove delivery service, they unpacked and hooked it up. Only problem was Amazon, they gave the delivery people the wrong phone number so it took a few extra days to contact the delivery company. I knew something was wrong when Amazons' order system did not ask for a contact number but said the vendor would call. But all in all I got a great deal on an excellent set. I have a 42" Panasonic and 50" LG the Samsung has a much better picture than the LG and a little better than the Panasonic. 720 p 1080i you will not know the difference since cable & sat HD is not true 1080p anyway its compressed, off the air HD is much sharper. :2011-11-17 11:33:59
This TV is excellent!! This is my review of the Samsung plasma TV.
I have to say this is one of the best TVs I have ever own, the colors are absolutely magnificent.
I have owe this TV for a little over a year now.
The sound quality of this set is not the best!
But, I have it hooked up to a surround sound system, And boy does this rock!!!
I've only to wipe the screen only one time so far.
As for setting up this TV it took me about 30 minute to set up. :2011-11-17 11:33:43
Samsung rocks good support on products This tv started getting red sparkles and it was past the warranty period Samsung fixed it right away no hassles no charge tv is still flawless and almost 2 years old :D I will be buying a lot of Samsung products it swayed me to purchased the all Black temp controlled extra large refrigerater by Samsung .... :2011-11-17 11:33:23
Great Value I have had this TV for about a year. It is the best TV you can get for $1000 or less. Only downside is weak speakers, and I have surround sound to cure that. :2011-11-17 11:33:06
WoW! best deal I found, I found this TV new at B&HPhoto.com for $699; Price includes S&H & no tax! My first concern prior to buying was the TV being 720p... My local Best Buy had it on display next to several 1080Ps and to my surprise this TV looked better or the same as the ones priced b/w 1500 to 2000 range. Still I had some doubt, but the price was unreal, so I bought it from B & H Photo.
Now that I've used it for a while I am delighted to say that picture is excellent! I've watched a few cartoon movies in blue Ray with my kids and the movies have a 3-D look to them. Terminator Salvation, the newest Harry Potter release in Blue Ray are amazing. You see things that you had not seen before.
Pros:
Picture Quality ---- Do not concern yourself with 1080P if you buy this TV. Even though it is a 720P, I promise you will not notice a difference
Over the airway HD Picture ---- I use an antenna to get over the air Local HD programming and picture is superior,
Standard TV signal ---- The picture image from standard (non-HD) is ok, but most programs I watch are in HD so this is of no concern for me
Screen size 50" for the price
Refresh rate, contrast, blacks, also this TV has a 3D engine built in for playing games in 3D --- I'll never use this but it is a plus
Reflection is not bad and TV has features built in to help reduce this
Has a good selection of inputs/outputs
Cons:
As with most LCDs/Plasmas--- "Speaker quality/sound"--- it is Ok, but you'll want to upgrade.....I bought an all in one home theater system and for me it does the job and is way better than the speakers that come with the TV, however if you are not a big movie watcher than I would not worry about upgrading.
"Remote" ---- This remote is a little tooooooo busy and might be an issue for some.
"on/off music" --- annoying, every time you turn the TV on or off a short tone plays.. You might be able to turn this off, but i'm not sure....petty I know.
Here are a few links to items you might need to help you get started and save $$$$$$$$$$$$.

GREAT TV GOOD BUY FOR THE MONEY VERY PLEASED WITH MY PURCHASE.THE PICTURE IS OUTSTANDING YOU CAN NOT GO WRONG BUYING THIS TV BECAUSE I DID MY HOMEWORK AND YOU WON'T FIND THIS TV CHEAPER ANY WHERE ELSE. :2011-11-17 11:32:06
Love It!, First let me say that I own a Samsung 40" LCD 1080p, and I am very happy with that one and really like Samsung for home electronics. I found this deal from a Google search because Fry's had the PN50B450 on sale for 1,099.00. I found it cheaper through Google shopping at Best Buy. Though we had some very questionable service at best buy (make sure they don't set the plasma it on it's side, they know better!).
This TV is just a great TV. I am viewing HD Clear QAM channels through the basic cable line and they look AWESOME. The only thing I ran into is the HDMI ports require the cable to be HDMI 1.3, so my DVD player has yet to work because I have to get a new cable. It says this in the manual though, so I wasn't alarmed.
I looked for reviews like this, and I especially liked the one from the guy who used to install Home Theater Systems. This is a great TV and if you can find it at a good price, buy it! :2011-11-17 11:29:39
Very nice TV I was a bit skeptical about buying plasma and 720p. However, after watching this TV for a month, the picture is fantastic. The 50-inch screen is very nice and the color and resolution of the screen is excellent. For the price, this TV is an excellent buy. Samsung makes excellent TVs. :2011-11-17 11:29:21
Strong product, for a very low price This is my first review on Amazon, I'm a Prime user and have been with Amazon since basically day one. That says a lot about this product.
Recently my Sony Wega decided to melt on me, after ten years of being the primary television in the house. I loved that set, and was sorry to see it go.
After a ton of research on a replacement, and expecting to spend at least $1200, I came across this set and it stopped me in my tracks. The cost per inch grabbed my attention at first on Amazon, along with the free shipping and zero sales tax to Florida. I noticed that the local big box had one in stock so I went to take a look, and I wasn't disappointed. That being said I don't believe the big box shops run full 1080p through their sets so mostly you will not notice the difference between a 720 or 1080 set. I was having a really hard time justifying spending anymore that $799 at this point, and something would have to blow me away in order to pass on this tv. Nothing did, so I picked it up.
Overall, impressed. I have a PS3 running through HDMI (.99 cents on Amazon... don't pay more for the hype), satellite tv via HDMI and I run my laptop through it occasionally. The picture is outstanding though it will take some tinkering and breaking in. Sports, video games, movies, HD tv shows, all amazing. The deep colors and true black of the plamsa is far and away better than lcd. I'm sure my next set will be an LCD or OLED, but for now the plasma is far from obsolete.
The tv does say that it's displaying at 1080i and 1080p when the source is higher than 720. I'm not sure if this is the case, or if it is just stating what the source resolution is... but I feel like the picture quality is much better when it states the resolution is 1080. Who knows, maybe you do get a lot more tv for the money.
Currently I have no complaints. Get a good stereo or surround receiver and speakers... tv speakers suck, plain and simple. That's not a complaint, but a reality.
The tv looks great, it does have a VERY slight touch of color, but not as red as the others.
To sum it up, you can't beat the size and quality for $799. The price has allowed me to upgrade speaker and pick up a smaller LCD for the bedroom. :2011-11-17 11:29:04
This is a nice TV I am really happy with this set. I originally purchased an Insignia 47" 1080P LCD, which is the best buy house brand. Granted it's a generic low-end set but it looked a lot better than what it replaced and looked pretty good in general. After more research I decided to return it for this set, no looking back for me. This is only a 720p set but from 11' away I can't tell the difference. Maybe if you sit 4' away you will see the difference but your eyesight will degrade so radiply it won't matter for long anyway. But seriously, roughly around 7-8' seems to be where I can distinguish the difference when comparing the 47" 1080 to the 50" 720 so for me I opted for the bigger screen for the money.
As far as plasma, I've been an LCD guy for years. Love the plasma though, the LCDs do offer a much brighter picture, but the plasma has more natural, deeper colors. It's a matter of opinion I suppose, but I prefer plasma now. As far as ir, I haven't had any. I didn't break it in at all just jumped right in with these settings, [...], post 362, and between me and the kids playing Wii and ps3 it's had static images on it for hours at a time. I was kind of worried about glare from the reflective screen, but it hasn't bothered me in the slightest bit.
One feature you don't hear mentioned much about ths tv,(even in the manual there is only a 2 sentence paragraph dedicated to it), is that it's 3d enabled. From what I've read most of the more expensive Samsung's don't even have it, not sure why they included it in this model, but I personally verified the 3d sync input was there and have read on other forums about people who have used it and were impressed. Not much dedicated programming for it yet outside of a few blu-rays and console games, but if you hook your pc up to it theres software to play games and movies in 3d from your pc. PS3 is supposed to be having a firmware update next year that enables all games to be run in 3d mode. All you need is the lcd shutter glasses and the 3d emitter.
No comment on the tv sound, it is hooked up to a receiver and have no intention of using the tv sound.
All in all, this is a good tv and I am quite happy with it. :2011-11-17 11:28:42
Don't let the 720 resolution fool you was concerned that 720p would be too low a resolution for such a large monitor. However, this was affordable, and so I got it. And WOW -- let me tell you that this is just about the best deal going. A fantastic 50" under $800 that has incredible performance and quality.
I would HIGHLY recommend this monitor. Don't let the 720p resolution get you down, it upconverts beautifully to 1080i through my BlueRay player (watched Avatar and it was breathtaking). My AppleTV looks STUNNING. And my HD Cable box shows it off as well.
I used to not have religion on Plasma vs. LED. However, I do now. Plasma looks more cinematic. LED looks too "realistic" -- everything is too "perfect" and it ends up by looking fake. Plasma is a far more realistic cinematic experience. I am not concerned about burn-in and at this price, I'll take the risk (which I believe to be miniscule). I am a plasma convert from this day forward.
Also -- spend good money on speakers for a truly great experience. I spent $1,200 on Definitive Technology speakers, $600 for a Denon receiver. Then with this TV, I had a world-class home theater system for under $2,500.
Buy this TV. You will NOT be disappointed. :2011-11-17 11:28:24
Extremely happy with my purchase, I purchased this HDTV from Amazon in February after months and months of research. After reading about and looking at LCD and Plasma sets, I decided to go with the Samsung 720p plasma. I like being able to view from any angle, the TV is in a room which can be brightly lit from the sun streaming through the windows, and there is no glare. The most important thing to me is the picture, it is amazing! The colors are vivid and clear. My daughter has a 55-inch LCD Vizio 1080p,she paid much more than I did for her set but the picture on my Samsung beats the Vizio hands down. Its hooked up to a Sony Blu-Ray player. I'm a big movie fan so watching blu-ray or dvd movies on this TV is awesome! The TV arrived before the expected date, the delivery company people were great, no problems at all. Set up was easy, the only help I needed was getting it on the stand. It's been 4 months now and I haven't had any issues with this TV. I highly recommend this product and would purchase again. :2011-11-17 11:28:11
Seriously?, I work for a cable company as a technician. I see lots of televisions. I was fortunate enough to observe most brands of TVs before buying my own. I have this television and let me just say honestly, after seeing thousands of televisions, with and without HD, with component cables and HDMI and DVI, I can tell the difference between 1080p and 720p from a distance. It's slight but, there is a difference. That tiny difference, like a previous reviewer said, is totally not worth $700. I paid $700 for my TV brand new (even though the company I bought it from tried to pawn a dented one off on me). I couldn't see how paying $1400 for the 1080p could be justified. WCS, I have the TV for 5-7 years, it dies and then, by that time, 1440p will be the big thing and I'll be able to pick up a 1080p TV for a handful of nickels and a firm hand shake!
PS... Cable tip: This should work on any HD cable boxes from Charter, Comcast or Cox.
1) Press the CABLE button on the remote. Then press the POWER.
2) Wait two seconds after pressing the POWER button and press the MENU
3) In this screen, you should be able to adjust your HD settings from the cable box to work better your TV. Not all techs know this but you do! If you want your HD to be crazy insane, do this because chances are the settings are 720i by default. Or 480p which is standard def. It also may change your screen size. Play with it like I did to find the best settings. To exit the screen, just press the POWER button. If I come to your house and you pull this little factoid out of your butt on me, I will put you in a figure 4 in front of your kids. And These are the breaks. :2011-11-17 11:27:58
Wow and Double Wow!! I just got this TV yesterday and I'm are still in shock! It is truly amazing! I don't even have HD programing for it and I'm almost afraid to get it because the SD programing (from DirecTv) is such an awesome picture. I mean how much shock can I take, lol. It takes less than 5 minutes to set up and the only adjustment I have made so far is to turn the color down a little because the reds were so red they hurt my eyes!
The sound is perfectly fine and I feel no need for a surround sound setup. I love the remote too, but since I have a DirecTV remote I don't even need it except to adjust settings on the TV. The size of this TV is perfect if not almost too big although I'm sure I'll get used to, lol. I watched a movie last night and could almost count the individual hairs on peoples heads. I sit about 11 feet from the tv. Amazing, just amazing. Delivery was even two days early and the man brought the TV in, unwrapped it and discarded the box. He set it up where I wanted it and even turned it on to check that it worked. That left me with the only thing left to do was go through the easy on screen setup. I had been afraid that TV would be difficult to set up what with all the new technology, but it was so easy that even my 80 year old Mom could do it! No need to look any further, this is the TV you want! The delivery man also said that he has NEVER had anyone return this TV! Enjoy. :2011-11-17 11:27:34
Perfection I purchased this TV after reading all of the reviews on this site along with all on the BB web site. I was very impressed with the number of people raving about this TV. So I ordered it without even a trip to see one. No one lied, as this TV, for being a 720 versus a 1080, is outstanding in every way. I purchased it for a second TV to free up our 65 inch from the kids during football season. I have had this TV for a month now and I love it in every way. The clarity of the tuner (no cable box) and the PS3 games is phenominal. The plasma vesus my DLP is like watching an ultra clear tube TV. People say about the sound but for normal use, I have no complaints. The boys use the PS3 with the sound about 13-15. Plenty loud enough to warrant me not hooking up my old sound system. I ordered this on a Tuesday and it was in my house working by Friday lunch time. Now that may not be the rule, but I was certainly impressed. If you are looking for a nice sized TV for a living room, look no further, order it. You will be glad you did! For $800, you simply can not find a better TV out there. I assure you, this is a great deal. Samsung rules the TV market IMHO! :2011-11-17 11:27:17
Bought this on-line after seeing it in couple of big box retail stores. You can't set the picture of I liked the first one I got so much I decided to get another one. Picture quality is much better than LCD even compared to 1080 but I don't think I would gone much bigger than 50" with a 720. I strongly believe that, in general, you get what you pay for but this is an exception. My situation is not the same as everyone but if you don't watch much TV, play video games, or have a brightly lit room for a TV, this is a no-brainer to save the money and get this 720 plasma rather than 1080 LCD. The money you save will help buy you the next technology.
The first delivery of this TV was damaged - the screen was cracked so I would advise others to open the box before signing the reciept that you "received the item in good condition". I didn't have any problems returning it but I was initially concerned when looking at the delivery receipt. :2011-11-17 11:27:03
Great Value for a Very Good TV Bought this on-line after seeing it in couple of big box retail stores. You can't set the picture of this TV apart from many others you'd see on the wall and that is the real point of buying it. This is a great choice for anyone looking at using this as a bedroom/living room TV (for HD cable/regular movies). I have dish network TurboHD package (HD content only) and it performs admirably. Great value over LCDs of similar size. The colors and contrast is fantastic (better than LCDs) and unlike Panasonic plasmas, the picture is a whole lot brighter(main concern for folks considering Plasmas vs LCDs). LCDs still are a lot brighter but it won't make a material difference to your TV viewing. For less than $800, it is really a steal. Outside of Blue Ray and old HDDVD movies, next to no HD content is available in 1080P. In case that changes in the next couple of years, your unused 1080P capability that you pay for today would have depreciated more than the price of this TV. You'd probably be able to buy a more recent 1080P TV then for a fraction of what you'd pay today.
In short, this TV makes all the sense for today and for the foreseeable future. The sound is prabably average for a TV but if you care for good audio, you should hook it up to a receiver and decent set of speakers. :2011-11-17 11:26:34
Excellent TV for the price!!! I have recently got this TV delivered after my 56' DLP started turning itself off randomly every 3 hours. Since I got the service plan three years ago I got two tv's for the price of 1. I got this TV which is fantastic. The colors are vibrant and really pop off the screen. I play a lot of games on XBOX 360 and PS3 which I don't know why they list the TV as displaying only 720P. I can set all three resolutions 720P, 1080i, and 1080P and XBOX accepts all of them. Could not be happier....

Panasonic is loosing it's ground as being the Best Rated after this Samsung 600hz came out. First off let me say Plasmas are much better picture than LCDs but yes they do consume more electricity than any 50" LCD. I compare the newest Viera 600hz and this side by side (actually two 600hz Vieras and this one). This one is clearly better picture. The Panasonic 720 and this 720P are actually higher than what is advertised. They are actually not 720p, 1280x720 but 768P or 1366 x 768.
"Brief Notes":
* Of what is not true anymore: At 600hz, this is faster than even the newer generation of LCDs so retail store use to push LCDs (esp. gamers) since the refresh rating.
* Burn in is not so much a factor any more. The screen saver kicks in early and Samsung has better technology to counterbalance the burn in effect that was in older generations. The 720p Viera X1 Series.
* TC-P50X1 clearly shows blacks better but not quality of picture. The X1 does not have that good of rating as you see from Amazon and other review sites.
If you have the money for a 1080p than go for it but I would go with a Plasma 768P, rather than spending about 40 percent more this is the greatest bang for the buck even though labeled as a 720p.
This generation of Samsung Plasmas rule. Samsung LCDs are professionally reviewed as the best but I have not seen a better looking TV than a Samsung whether it be a 768P or a 1080P. :2011-11-17 11:25:50
Samsung 50 inch plasma 720p This TV is amazing. The picture is fabulous, The controls for Samsung are very intuitive and easy to use, connections are easy and have many options. And the delivery - top notch. I would not hesitate to recommend, this TV or Amazon delivery to anyone.
This is my second Plasma n 2 years, both from AMAZOn. I am a happy camper. :2011-11-17 11:25:34
Well I finally replaced my 36" HDTV Sony it always got a great picture but this Samsung 50" (pn50B4 All I can say is WoW ,compared to an older DLP samsung HDTV that I had this one is much smoother and clearer, colours are deep and vibrant, the difference is like night and day. Get this one Excellent purchase.
Pros: clear smooth video,no pixalation from fast moving scenes, no fuzz or white dots common with lcd or dlp tv's, all glass screen, standard dvd's look very good compared to same content on lcd or dlp tv's.
Cons: remote is not universal, tv stand should be a little more sturdy. :2011-11-17 11:25:03
I'm sold! Well I finally replaced my 36" HDTV Sony it always got a great picture
but this Samsung 50" (pn50B450) puts it to shame. The black level is
great and there is no motion blur.I'm sitting about 8' from set watching a blueray and it looks fantastic. The only change I made was reduce color
intensity from 50 t0 40. that was it..... :2011-11-17 11:24:31
Great T,V. The Samsung PN59b450 50 inch plasma HDTV is a very good buy. Extremely fast shipment. The picture on this set is very bright and clear. The B model runs much more cooler than the A model. This 50 inch plasma runs even runs cooler than my 37 inch LCD. All in all was a very good purchased and worth the price. :2011-11-17 11:24:16
Best Buy Out There!, Just bought this today at Best Buy who had it on sale for $959 and 36 months same as cash! I used to build custom Home Theaters and have had the opportunity to see a lot of Video Displays. I have viewed cable delivered HD (mostly 1080i) and Blu-Ray DVD via a Sony PSP3....and I can tell you that anyone would be hard-pressed to discern the difference between this units 720P display and any other at 1080P. Superb Picture! As far as I am concerned, Samsung has set the standard. I just feel sorry for the poor fool who spends more than $990 on a 50" Plasma unit~ ...and please, do not spend $200 on a wall mount! the Cheetah APTMM2B is more than suitable. :2011-11-17 11:23:53
Why I bought this one? I'd like to share my thought of process in buying this TV.
First, I wanted at least 46" for viewing at 10' under $1300. My first choice was LCD with 1080P of course since it seems like everyone is going toward the LCD. I primarily watch sport and movie, not really plan for gaming. From reading from many resources (Amazon's user review, [...].), watching at different stores (Fry's, Bestbuy, Sears) in more than 10 visits, I concluded that plasma is better way to go in many reasons. From my eyes, I think plasma produces a better picture quality than LCD. Image quality from plasma looks more natural and not flat (don't know how to explain). Comparing color, plasma generates better skin tone (in photography or flesh tone in (probably) videography???) and a lot cheaper.
I was worried about power consumption and dimmer picture comparing to LCD (when viewing in stores). Both of them are not really major issues at all at home. First I tried to find that how much it's gonna cost me for watching this big screen TV. I looked at the back of the screen and found that the maximum power consumption rated is 360W. That's one-quart of my portable oil radiation heater, not a big deal. For your information, 300W will cost you 3cent for an hour of usage. For the dimmed picture (like the picture is under-exposure in photography), I thought it should be ok in my apartment.
The next thing was 720P or 1080P. I went to stores and checked by myself that I can distinguish the difference (I consider my eyes are pretty good at this). From less than 5', I can see that the pixel for 720P is bigger than the pixel of 1080P. That means from less than 5' you will see the 720P has less detail. However, I will be watching at 8'-10' which is not a problem at all. The 720P set was located side-by-side to the $1700 Samsung LCD and I watched both of them from 8' away and there's no different in resolution. I thought that I'm not gonna pay extra $700 for that for sure.
Next thing you're gonna be worried was image retention (IR) and burn-in. If you understand how it works, you will know how to avoid that problems. From normal TV watching, there's no way that your TV will have a burn-in or IR plus the TV set provides the pixel shift function to avoid the problem in case you play a game and sleep while the screen shows still image. If you feel sleepy, just turn off your TV and go to bed. Don't waste your money of electric bill.
Only one pitfall I see is there's only 3 HDMI ports
One thing that I don't understand, the PN50B450's response time is 0.001ms (way way shorter than regular LCD (4-6ms) and refresh rate at 600Hz which 5-time better than higher level LCD (120Hz), but when I watch Giants, I can see that it's not fast enough when the comcast graphic is flashing (pixelette). There's not problem at all for normal game play. So I don't know how LCD or LED are going to handle this. Maybe it's from the source (I subscribe to Comcast HD).

WOW!! I Just picked up this TV at BB. I was just in the store walking around and went over to check out the PN50A450 but they had this next to the 1080p plasma from Samsung. This TV looked AMAZING. It was next to a couple of Samsung's LCDs which looked much brighter but the colors were horrible. But I knew the brightness of the Plasma is just fine at home and the colors are very accurate. Put it in the truck making sure it stayed completely vertical and set it up at home - wow! Have my ps3 hooked up watching Blu-Rays on it and we are amazed at how great the picture looks. I haven't tweaked any of the settings but it looks stunning out of the box.
It does have 2 component inputs even though they aren't listed on here or on any location on the net for some reason, one of the reasons I was gunning for the A450 until I saw this. It also has a very slight touch of red color that you can only really tell if a brighter light is on.
The remote is pretty cheap, it almost feels like a fisher price unit. The remote itself does not have discreet input switching but I am pretty sure it accepts discreet IR commands if you have a universal like a Harmony.
The TV has a welcome mode that helps you set it up when you plug it in which was pretty cool.
Oh and the stand swivels which is pretty nice.
Overall this TV is amazing, it is like watching it at the theater. I can't speak for the longevity or if any problems pop up, since I just got it, but I'll update if there are any problems!
______UPDATE AFTER A WEEK OF HEAVY USE________4/19/09____
A few things I can update after using this thing to play a ton of Call of Duty World at War, the NHL/NBA playoffs, and Blu Rays:
I have experienced no burn in or IR issues. I have the pixel shift enabled at 2 2 2 in case you were wondering. But we play a ton of video games on this and it has been fine. I also lowered the contrast from the default settings by about 15 which did not affect picture quality.
This TV also generates barely any heat. After hours of usage I check with my hand and there are two small locations near the vents on the top back that are warm at best, but the rest of the TV is mostly cool to the touch still. I find this phenomenal considering my Samsung LCD that is next to it (2006 Model) generates at least 3 times as much heat.
Another thing to mention is how much you will get used to having no motion blur. We had the Cleveland/Detroit game on both the plasma and lcd and when I was looking at the LCD, I couldn't believe I had been OK with all the motion blur you see in LCDs. There is none in the plasma. Also, the blacks and colors are so much better than an LCDS you will hate watching anything on an LCD after watching on this.
The only cons I have found so far is that the power and other buttons on the unit itself are touch sensitive, kind of like a PS3, but they are small and it is really difficult to see which one does which because the locations match the dark black of the frame so you have to kind of run your finger over the buttons and hope you are aiming your finger at the right one. Of course, most people use their remote for this. Another con is that the frame and stand collect dust very easily, however, it takes 2 seconds to wipe off with the towel. The screen, however, does not collect anything and has stayed crystal clean since it's installation. :2011-11-17 11:23:04
